Basic DetailsEducation Qualification
For Assistant Professor and JRF (Junior Research Fellowship)Candidates must have completed or be appearing in the Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from a recognized university/institution.
Minimum Marks RequiredGeneral/Unreserved candidates must have at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent exam.
For OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender candidates – 50% marks are required.
Subjects Accepted The subject of the Master’s degree should be the same or closely related to the subject selected for the UGC NET exam.
Subjects Accepted Candidates who are appearing in their final year of Master’s degree or awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree within the specified time.
Ph.D. Degree HoldersCandidates who completed a Ph.D. and whose Master’s exam was done before 19 September 1991, are eligible for 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%).

1. Written Examination (Online CBT Mode)
Two Papers: Paper I (General) and Paper II (Subject-Specific)
Both conducted in a single 3-hour session.
No negative marking.
2. Final Merit & Qualification
Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks in both papers.
Separate cut-offs are released for JRF and Assistant Professor eligibility.
Final merit is based on aggregate marks of Paper I + Paper II.
Note: Qualifying UGC NET makes candidates eligible for Assistant Professor or JRF, depending on marks and age criteria.
